The Big E, a Top Event in North America
By Brandon Dudley September 12, 2012
The Big E Festival in West Springfield, MA is one of the ABA’s top 100 Events in North America and one that The BusBank sends numerous charter bus and tour groups to as well. Each year, The Big E Festival takes place on the Second Friday after Labor Day and runs for 17 days. The Big E is bigger than just being a state fair as it is actually a multi-state fair for the New England States of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. As with most state fairs the focal points are livestock and animals, food, concerts and visiting the various vendors selling local memorabilia.
See Animals at The Big E
The Big E has a large coliseum that has a variety of activities happening in regards to the animals. 4H contests, dog and pony shows are some of the activities that animal lovers can check out. If farm animals and livestock aren’t your thing, you can check out the Big E Super Circus. It is a can’t miss as you just need to look for the red & white Big Top tent. The circus is consistently one of the most attended events at the Big E with three free performances occurring each day.
Food Options at The Big E
Food at all State Fair’s is almost always the star of the show. The Big E Festival is no different with a couple of key items that are the stars of the show. The Big E Cream Puff is well known and is pretty big. You better bring a big appetite or some friends with you to share it. Another option that is very popular is the Big E’s original Crazy burger. The Crazy Burger is a cheeseburger that features two things, we at The BusBank love Bacon+ Donuts! Yes it is a bacon cheeseburger with two halves of a glazed donut! If you thought that option was crazy, they are really bringing out the stops with a Deep Fried Lasanga. You can read more about the festivals food, here. We don’t have pictures of this yet, so we need you to check it out and post pictures on our Facebook Page. “The Big E” does have a lot of other types of food and drinks stations with options from Pierogi’s to tacos along with local beer such as Sam Adams, and Local Vodka from V-One Vodka.
Hear Your Favorite Band at the Festival
Getting to see your favorite band or performers is something one comes to expect from State Fairs and at many of the other Top Events across the country. This festival is no different with top acts performing music acts, comedians, and action sports events happening throughout the 17 days of the Big E Festival.
If you are looking for something to do in New England in early fall, we recommend checking out The Big E Festival. We easily see why it is included on the Top 100 Events in North American and are pretty confident it is the top events to attend in New England each year for tour groups.
