Learn More About Operator
Safety
The BusBank® is committed to helping
lead our industry’s agenda for a higher level
of service and safety. Every operator we work with has
agreed to live up to our standards and we have verified
their information with the United States Department
of Transportation. The reality is, however, no organization,
including The BusBank, can guarantee an incident will
not occur, but we have invested in the people and processes
to help make our service the best it can be. Here is
what we do to establish a safety profile of an operator |
| |
| Where safety
standards are concerned, operators must, at a minimum: |
|
|
|
|
 |
|
Be an operator “in
good standing,” as determined and
reported by United States Department of
Transportation – Federal Motor Carrier
Safety Administration, as reported in its
online Motor Carrier Safety Status Measurement
System (SafeStat*). This automated, data
driven analysis system designed and maintained
by the FMCSA is a scoring system based on
data collected and reported by state and
federal agencies. We review this rating
regularly and also contract with the same
independent service used by large insurance
underwriters to alert us to changes in an
operator’s SafeStat status. |
|
|
 |
|
Hold a Valid Operating
Authority as per USDOT. |
|
|
 |
|
Carry a mandated minimum
of $5,000,000 of insurance coverage** from
a reputable carrier in accordance with USDOT-
FMSCA regulations, as evidenced by a current
in-force insurance certificate. |
|
|
 |
|
Agree to abide by The
BusBank’s Terms and Conditions for
each charter they conduct for our customers.
These requirements include: |
| |
|
- Meeting the high-level service
standards in our 5-Star Guarantee
- Maintaining a program for driver
training and customer care
- Complying with federally mandated
drug and alcohol testing of drivers
- Complying with all applicable
federal, state and local laws
- Assigning only properly licensed
drivers and using only registered
and maintained equipment

* USDOT-FMCSA (United States
Department of Transportation – Federal Motor Carrier
Safety Administration) SafeStat: Short for Motor Carrier Safety
Status Measurement System, this is an automated, data driven
analysis system designed by the FMCSA. The scoring system
depends on data collected and reported by state and federal
agencies, which has a history of being incomplete. This is
primarily due to limited resources being committed to inspection
of operators. The BusBank cannot warrant the accuracy of the
information provided by state and federal agencies.
**Some mini buses, school buses and specialty vehicles may
have lower minimum coverage requirements. |
